It’s not in ‘high’ demand. Not compared to meat or fish. It’s also not just ‘vegetarian’ food per-se. But all health food in general costs more. I know my grocery bill total goes up the more fresh vegetables and fruits I buy.

Well, since you aren’t spending money on meat, the extra money can be used to buy fresh, organic vegetables and fruit. If you want to save that extra money, you can still be a vegetarian, it just means that you will be buying regular, pesticide-sprayed vegetables from the supermarket.

Organic food is expensive, but just because something is vegetarian doesn’t mean it’s expensive.

Please, do become a vegetarian :)

It’s expensive because they know vegetarians will pay the price to keep being vegetarian.

Dried beans, rice and veggies are not more expensive than meat.

I would have to disagree Meat is pretty costly now. The only things that tend to cost more are preprocessed foods and fake meats.

Umm…I just paid 89 cents for a freakin organic pear and banana each today!!! What the ****!! I don’t think this pear was laced in gold or blessed by God or anything. So, I definitely agree with you!!! The prices are ridiculous. I know that bananas cost about 5 cents/lb in these tropical regions of third-world countries which they are grown like India, Brazil, Philippians, Costa Rica, Honduras, etc.!

What’s really an utter waste of money are the Burt’s Bees products. People are paying 14 dollars on a 4 oz bottle of sunscreen lotion and .15 lip balm that contain honey, beeswax, fragrances, tocopherol, oils, etc.

Well if your parent will be paying for it, it will be more expensive for them because they’ll be buying extra food.

Even though generally, veggies, fruits, grains, and nuts are a lot cheaper then meat.

Except if you buy the meat substitutes. Those are kind of expensive.

It’s not more expensive. Vegetarian protein sources are either cheaper or about the same price as meat. People think it’s cheaper because most people have the weird idea that only vegetarians eat vegetables when we all need the same amount of fruits and vegetables in our diet whether we eat meat or not. Vegan can be a tiny bit more expensive only because non-dairy milks and vegan cheeses cost a bit more than dairy ones, but it’s not a big difference.

We live in a society that hates vegetarians so, I do believe they’re trying to make it harder. It’s a cycle, less people will become veg because the food costs more. My mom only buys me food occasionally and I suffer. I’m running out right now actually. It is expensive to me. I get mine from TJ’s

Imitation meats can be pricey…but not when compared to the health and environmental problems caused by meat consumption and production.

Prepackaged food is expensive period, vegetarian or not. If you dont buy prepackaged food it is much less expensive to eat vegetarian.
