Which cuisine of the world (Chinese, Indian, Italian, etc) is best when it comes to vegetarian food?

edward sharpe fan asked:

Personally I think Indian food is the best for vegetarian dishes but just want to see what other vegetarians think.

Hi: I’d say Indian too – they have tons of veggie only recipes!

I agree with Indian because a lot of people in India are vegetarian, and the rich delicious sauces and spices in indian food complement vegetables very well. Large parts of India have mostly vegetarian cuisine, although health tests have shown the Indians that eat meat are almost always healthier than Indians that don’t eat meat.

Sorry I am not vegetarian, but I do sometimes have a vegetable curry.

Middle eastern is good too. Stuffed grape leaves, falafel, hummus, sabanya, Ful Muddamas, taboulleh, baba ganoush, Ezme Salatasi, Mujadarra and many more

I would have to agree and say Indian as well… There are thousands and thousands of vegetarian recipes for Indian food!!!! How could there not be though with over 40% of the people of India vegetarian?! I believe they have the largest percentage of vegetarians of any where in the world.

One of my favourite things is a potato and chickpea poori with salad… Mmmmm!!!!

That’s a hard one. I regularly cook Mexican, Italian, Indian, Thai, Japanese, Middle Eastern, and Chinese food. It’s all very easy to make veggie.

However, if going out to eat, you probably will have the best variety of choices on the menu at an Indian or Chinese food place.

Indian food. They have a tradition of vegetarianism that is thousands of years old.

My wife is India and I have no idea what health tests that person is talking about. He’s making it up. My wife is also a licensed dietitian and we’re both vegetarians.

I choose Indian also. Indian food is naturally vegetarian and there is so much variety with flavors and textures.

Some wierd answer about all of parts of india being completely vegetarian. I live in india and it’s funny i’ve never heard of that.

In every cuisine you get veggie food. If your a local and your making the food for yourself then they are all pretty much on equal terms with veggie food.

If its restaurant food then indian, in my opinion.
Alot of choices and you don’t have to worry about fish stock, pork stock etc (chinese) and rennet (italian)

Definitely Indian food. However, there is a lot of dairy. For vegan-friendly food, I would say Japanese, simply because sushi can be made with any filling and all the ingredients are visible and obvious.
