GOOD GOD CHILD!
I have been vegetarian 8 years.
It’s not “A” vegetarian, its vegetarian, its a lifestyle, life choice.
Not a label.
You can buy pills for your protein.
for everything you need.
besides all the boca burgers and such have protein in them for you.
we have enough meat substitutes.
peanut butter is protein packed as well, it is not hard to figure out.

I’ve been a veggie for over 13 years, I eat a variety of beans. You should also go to your grocers freezer section. Look for Morningstar Farms and Boca and Quorn products. There’s veggie sausage, burgers, chicken, hot dogs, bacon. Go to Whole Foods and you’ll find a huge selection of animal-free meats. You should also go to international markets for fake ham and tuna and so forth. Look for veggie cookbooks that address your Mom’s concerns. Your Mom has nothing to worry about!

Believe it or not, but the Standard American Diet actually contains TOO MUCH protein (because it is centered around dead animals and their by-products).
By becoming a vegetarian, you will most likely have just the right amount of protein without overdoing it. Plus, you will be consuming the kinds of protein that are the easiest for human bodies to digest. (Do some research about human digestion of meat….it’s a very long and taxing process!).
Any-who. As long as you eat beans, legumes, fruit and veggies, that’s all the protein you’ll really need. You can get some added protein by eating soy-based mock meat, tofu or tempeh.
Good luck!

falaels there amazing and full of protein… don’t forget about nuts (if not allergic), eggs, and beans, cheese and other dairy.
Contrary to popular belief the amount of protein we require in one day is contained inside 1 chicken wing… I would focus more on iron and b12 requirements then protein
vitamins or supplements might be good try the one a day multivitamin.

Rice and beans form a perfect protein and it’s delicious. look up recipes at allrecipes.com. I also love the cook book “the meditterean diet”. It’s not a veggie cook book but there are a lot of high protein healthy recipes that contain no meat.

Protien rich foods include processed foods such as Tofu & Tempeh, legumes such as beans(garbonzo, kidney, blackbeans, lentils, soybeans, etc) peas & peanuts.Coupled with whole grainssuch as brown rice, whole wheat, barley, quinoa, spelt creates a complete protien that includes most all of the amino acids your body needs. Other protien rich foods include dairy products & eggs (if you go the lacto-ovo route). Tree nuts are also rich in protien. Protien mixes for smoothies are another great way to encorperate protien into the diet, Spirutien is very yummy so is genie soy. Take a cup of milk (or soy milk) a banana, a few canned peaches a few ice cubes and a scoop of protien mix in a blender, blend untill smooth for a great breakfast that will keep you going all morning~!
There are several companies that make prepared meat substitute available at most local supermarkets, such as morningstar farms, gimmelean, tofurky, not-dogs, tofu pups etc. All of these can be made with little preperation and they taste pretty good.
Morningstar farms has a burger replacement, chicken pattie & nugget replacement, as well as bacon, and breakfast sausage.
Tofurky has packaged lunchmeats as well as tofu turkeys available.
My favorite veggie food that is high in protien is hummus, it is pretty easy to make in a food processor.
1 can garbanzo beans with the outer shell removed
1/4 cup Tahini (sesame butter)
juice of half a lemon\
1 teaspon Garam Masala (a spice mix available a good one is made by Spice Island)
1 large clove of garlic minced
water
olive oil
peel & mince the garlic in the food processor
pulse garbanzobeans and tahini untill a ball is formed, add spice and lemon juice, run the food processor while slowly drizzling olive oil (or water for a lower fat variety) untill the hummus is no longer a ball and it is a paste. continue to blend in the food processor untill it is a smooth creamy texture.
Hummus is great on crackers, pita, I even like it on soft tortilla’s with lettuce tomato cucumber and black olives. It makes a great dip for tortilla chips
Tofu is great but it doesn’t alwys taste right unless it is properly seasoned. I like to take a brick of extra firm tofu and slice it into strips, and pour about a cup of prepared good seasons Italian salad dressing on it, and a tablespoon of balsamic vinegar. Let it marinade for at least an hour then I fry it in a pan or grill it outside until golden brown, it makes a great salad topping or sandwich.
Another product you might want to look into is Braggs it tastes like soysauce, but it has alot of the amino acids and is a great food additive to add flavor and nutrients.
Best of luck to you!

What you need to do is find out what has protein and incorporate those things in your diet.
Say everyday you eat some nuts, peanut butter, something like that, even if it is just peanut butter on your toast or a handful of almonds during the day.
If you are eating eggs and cheese, you probably don’t have to worry about it as much then if you were vegan.
Beans and lentils, whole wheat pasta, brown rice. Just eat smart. Take out the meat, add in some of these
Milk
Soy Milk
Eggs
Cheese
Yogurt
Peanut Butter
Beans, Tofu, Lentils, and other Legumes
Grains, including bread and pasta
Oatmeal
Nuts and Seeds
Look that up.
There is fine balance between healthy and obsessive. I always have some nuts or seeds around, I eat whole wheat, I eat Quinoa (which is really great). I don’t want to always be thinking about it, so I researched…now I know that I am getting what I need.
And it’s true, most people get much more protein then they need.
Good Luck!

A peanut butter sandwich is propbably the simplest high protein food you can make without fuss. if yo are okay with eating eggs and dairy, they are high in protein too. then move on to beans, legumes, dark green leafy veggies, nuts. Chili made with beans and other root veggies for added texture and topped with cheese (again, if you are okay with dairy)with a side salad is good. Soybean products like soy milk and tofu or bean curd is good though it should not be the main staple of your diet, just a part of it. Bean salad is good too. Try tooking for recipes which you can help you mother make so she won’t have to do all the work.
PS don’t be too obssesed with protein. There are other equally important nutrients that your body needs and require your attention as much as protein. If you can, ask your mother to set up an appointment with a nutritionist who can better help you with your requirements.

Hey, welcome to vegetarianism, my mam was the same about me, and I found it quite difficult to find protein substitutes for meat because I’m a bit of a fussy eater:P Basically theres a lot of other foods high in protein that people don’t usually think of, nuts and beans are very high as well as eggs and cheese (but not for vegans), soya, tofu and quorn are very good too; you can buy frozen foods like quorn sausages and pies from the Linda McCartney range. And soya chicken burgers, bacon etc. I noticed someone said fish, this is not a vegetarian food, if you cut out meat but eat fish this is pescatarianism not vegetarainism, being vegetarian means not eating any animals, including fish, not just mammals. Also make sure you get all the right nutrients your new diet may be lacking, iron can be an issue, you’ll find it in green leafy vegetables, but if you’re not too keen on them, you can take iron tablets to ensure you get enough. Hope this helps you persuade your mam!

Instead of presenting you mother a list of foods that are rich in protein how about getting material that is readily available that shows just how much protein it is important to have. Of course various sources will say different amounts as experts rarely agree but the bottom line is this is not a difficult task for a vegetarian to have an appropriate intake of protein because if you are eating a varied diet then you should meet requirements without even having to think about it. Unless your mother understands this yourself you could be doing yourself a disservice by over indulging in protein rich foods that you don’t need just so moms will let you maintain your new lifestyle.

Substitute tofu for meat, variety of nuts, variety of lentils and beans. Eat lots of green leaf salads with raw veggies, lots of fruit. Get one of juices …. coz it is the easiest way to get all the nutrients from veggies, just drink it! Carrot juice to really tasty.

Naturally I like your web-site, even so you need to have to check the spelling on several of your posts. A lot of of them are rife with spelling troubles and I uncover it quite silly to inform you. On the other hand I will surely come once again once again! 502108
