I think gourmet pasta refers to whole wheat types of pasta.

Aside from the price? Gourmet pasta may be just whole grain pasta. It’s supposed to be healthier for you, much like whole wheat bread and brown rice. Personally, I like the Barilla Plus whole grain pasta. The texture is a little different, but the taste is EXACTLY the same. You won’t want to eat a huge amount either. To get yourself acclimated to it, mix it half and half with the same cut of regular pasta.

Marketing! There are two types of pasta fresh and boxed. Use Barilla pasta its hard to overcook, hold up well.
