What calssifies something as gourmet?

Or is that just a term added to a food item so it’s more likely to sell? Would you rather have a chocolate chip cookie or a gourmet chocolate chip cookie? See what I mean? Someone clarify…

There’s no specific criteria that would make one food more gourmet than another. Traditionally, a gourmet is just a person who has refined tastes and a passion for food. That’s generally still true, but the term has been heavily abused by marketing departments, so if you see it on food packaging, it almost definitely has no meaning whatsoever.
