What are some good baby food recipes?

Honey Bee asked:

My little one is getting to the solid food stage and I am really interested in making her baby food. Does anyone have any good recipes?
She is 4 months about to be 5 months in a few days ….

Don’t have babies but I’ve done this in my restaurant for guests, Just slightly overcook a mixture of vegetables, and put through the blender with a little cream and a touch of cinnamon for sweetness. Possibly make up batches and freeze

Basic is best at first in my view. Get some wonderful produce at a local farmers market or co-op that is free of too many chemicals. Then prepare the food by which ever method you prefer (steam, boil, or the like). Cool it and then mash it up, or dice it up, depending on your little ones ability to chew (I am not clear on your meaning of baby food…like for a 6 monther, or a year old going to Truly solid foods). No need for salts, sugars or seasonings at this stage in life, their taste buds will soon enough be addicted to those things!

Just go to the baby food isle for some combination Inspiration!

Honey Bee, think back if you can. But I remember my mom used to blend some of the food she made for the table, to make a baby food for my nieces and nephew’s. You do not have to go nuts making special foods. Roast beef or roast pork with the added gravy and the baked vegetables the kids went made over.

Honey Bee. Experiment with the foods you prepare for you and your hubby, just remember not to spicy. As the child gets older increase the texture. In other words pulse the blender so it has texture and not mush.

You already have some good ideas but there’s one thing I want to add that you need to be aware of. If your baby is right now only on milk/formula, you need to determine if your baby has any allergies with the foods. That’s why most of the baby foods are individual foods. You want to see how your baby reacts to each new food and to see if they have any reaction (rash, vomiting, diarrhea, etc.) to the food. Start there. You can puree very bland simple foods (peas, carrots, beans, etc.) and try one new one every few days to make sure your baby doesn’t have a problem with it. Then add another. And once you’ve determined there are no allergy issues with the foods, you can combine them (like mixed vegetables – pureed or chopped). But if your baby reacts to something from the very beginning and it’s mixed foods, you won’t know which one upset your baby.

    Just “food for thought”.

    Hope that helps.
