Is it normal for babies to slow down eating when it’s really hot out?

Asks Many Questions asked:

The last couple days it has been really hot out, and my infant has slowed down his eating. He eats roughly every 3 hours instead of the 1 to 1 and half hours, and he isn’t nursing as long as he did before.

My question is. Is this normal or should I be worried?
Sorry he is 4 weeks old tomorrow.

It is normal – you didn’t say how old your baby is – I am guess newborn? It is normal for baby to become better at nursing in the first couple of weeks. That may be why he is slowing down – he is getting so good at it that he gets what he needs faster.

I’m not sure how old your baby is but he could be moving out of growth spurt. Once he moves back into one he may start eating more. Is he old enough to teethe? Some days my daughter eats more some days she eats less. I wouldn’t run to the Dr until he has less then the recommended amount of soiled wet diapers. Is he sick or running a fever. If so he could be dehydrated because of the heat. I wish i could be more specific but I’m not sure how old your baby is what specifics other than heat might be affecting him. Honestly, if you get too worried he’s barely taking in anything just go to the doctor.. they always make me feel better when I feel something is wrong with my baby. Good Luck

its normal for babies to eat about every 2 to 3 hours, but the fact that he isn’t eating as much might be a concern. talk to his pediatrician.
