What I can say is – olive oil is clearly one of the ‘good’ oil. Regarding your question “Can olive oil help to weight loss?”, even though a lot of researches have been conducted on this topic, but there are many uncertainties until now. Therefore, my advice is – focus on eating more fruits and vegetables every day.
Anyway, I would still recommend starting out by substituting any fatty condiments and cooking you do with olive oil.

Oil, regardless of type is 900 calories per 100g, like lard! Olive oil is one of the better oils to use as it is lower in saturated fats and therefore less likely to clog up your arteries unlike Lard. But to lose weight, reduce your calories. If you take in more calories than you spend during exercising you will put on weight.

Olive oil and olive leaf extract are GREAT for you! Look at this special report at Life Extension Foundation: Of particular interest to someone who is headed toward diabetes, note that the main polyphenol in olive oil, oleuropein, protects the beta cells in the pancreas from destruction (as occurs in diabetes). Oleuropein is a powerful antioxidant and anti-inflammatory, and it lowers risk of cancer, diabetes, bone loss, and heart disease. But do not think you are protected from anything if you use olive oil at home but eat out a lot. I take olive leaf extract, 1 g./day and I can feel the difference!
