Easy cooking recipies?! I want to help my mom?

Lisa… asked:

Hi my name is Lisa! I come home after school everyday at around 2:30 I want to help my mom out by making dinner every night. I can barely make ice, but I know how to use the microwave and toaster so that is good right! I would like some good recipies or links to website with good recipies. They need to be easy to make and not anything weird. I would also like not too much handling of meat i cant look at it for too long with out getting grossed out. Also could someone give me some basic cooking tips. Our school doesn’t teach this they teach tech things so i geuss its good i know how to use a computer. Basically to get the points if you could give me some easy to make and yummy tasting recipies and teach me some of your tips and basic things like how to turn it on and stuff! haha anyway i really want to help my mom so i would really appreciate your answers!

I think it’s very cool that you want to help your mom with dinner.
has some great easy recipes and cooking tips. As for my favorite…

Cut up a couple of chicken ******* (one for each person you’re cooking for). Then to that add 2 cups of rice (straight out of the box), 2 cups of water, 2 small boxes of frozen broccoli thawed in the microwave, two cans of cream of mushroom soup, two cups of shredded cheddar cheese, and one onion chopped. Put it in a greased 9×13 dish and bake at 375 for one hour. Yum!

    Good luck!

    English Muffin Pizza

    2 English muffins
1 (8 ounce) can tomato sauce
    italian seasoning
    1/2 cup grated mozzarella cheese
1/2 cup bacon or sausage or hamburger (cooked) or sliced cold cuts

1 Slice the muffins in half, and place them cut side up in a baking pan or on a cookie sheet.

2 Spoon some sauce onto the muffin halves, using just enough to cover the tops (you may not use the whole can).

3 Top the sauce with the meat of your choice.

4 Sprinkle with Italian seasoning and cheese.

5 Place under the broiler until the cheese melts and starts to bubble (3-5 minutes).

    6 Serve immediately.

    Fish in the River

2 celery ribs, washed and trimmed
1/4 cup cream cheese or cheese spread, softened
    12 goldfish crackers

1 Fill prepared celery stalks with your choice of cream cheese or cheese spread.

2 Add the goldfish crackers on top of cream cheese or cheese spread to look like fish swimming.

3 For fun, you could always use a flavored cream cheese or add something to it for your choice of flavors. To make it even more fun, try tinting the cream cheese with a little blue food coloring to make it look like water.

    Simple 1-2-3 Marinated Vegetable Salad

    Dressing
    1/2 cup white vinegar
1/2 cup canola oil or vegetable oil
    1/2 cup sugar
    1 teaspoon salt

    Salad
    1 onion, roughly chopped
2 green peppers, seeded and chopped into small cubes
3 cucumbers, peeled and cut into small cubes
4 tomatoes, cut into small cubes

1 Make the dressing by combining all the dressing ingredients in a small bowl.

2 Whisk until the sugar is dissolved.

    3 Set aside.

4 To make the salad: Place all the chopped vegetables in a large bowl with a lid and pour the dressing over all.

5 Use a wooden or plastic spoon to gently stir so that the dressing coats all the vegies and everything is well mixed.

6 Cover and chill at least six hours before serving, stirring at least every hour.

7 When ready to serve, let salad stand at room temperature for 5 minutes.

8 This is easiest to eat when served in a bowl and eaten with a spoon.

9 Be sure to get plenty of the juices into each bowl.

see if Mom will let you help plan a menu. decide which parts you already know, and which parts you need help with.

Mom should be flattered that you want to cook like she does.

go to your public library and get some BASIC-where they show pictures for each step-recipes.

some of the web sites are very good for beginning cooks. google ‘basic recipes’ and then the food you want to cook.

cooking may seem like a vast and uncharted territory now but it is a skill you will need to know for the rest of your life.

think how proud she will be when you can cook ALL the meals.

I would check out, they have some realllly awesome stuff (and easy which is a must for me haha), open the site, there is a tab for advanced search and tick easy recipes and search. It will come up with a bunch of recipes and 3/4 of them have been rated by people at home who have cooked them (you can also sort the recipes by highest rated – click highest rated and will give you the top ones in order).

In the meantime some basic ideas for you which should work (I am also not keen on cooking meat, can make me *** at times, so this should help you):

    Ok.. easy meals…

If you have a grill, grilled chicken burgers… grill chicken fillet or flavoured chicken skewers until it is completely cooked (preferrably brown and check the inside when you think done to make sure not pink), cut up some lettuce, cheese, onion and any other veg/salads you want on it and serve with lettuce.. (can also flavour the chicken fillet too if you want using a marinade or buy some lemon juice and thyme and spinkle some of that before putting it on the grill).

Chicken kebabs homestyle (similar to above really)
Get cooked chicken, lebanese bread and desired salads and sauces, put them on the lebanese bread, wrap it and cover with aluminium foil, put it on the sandwich press until cooked at desired temp

Frozen meat of some sort (Crumbed fish/Chicken Strips/Pieces etc) (read the packaging but usually around 45 minutes to cook), some mash potato
Mashed potato you peel the potatoes (for a family of four say around 2 large potatoes – decrease to one if just you and your mum), cut them in half then quarter the halves so small cubes.. boil water on the stove (put it on high with lid covering the pan, fill water to about half way in large pot), once boiling remove lid and gently drop in the potato.. let it cook for around 30 minutes or uintil potato is soft, drain it and add in a tablespoon of butter and mash.. then add in some milk (say three tablespoons – more if not creamy enough once mixed in) and add in some chives if you want to give it flavour or a little bit of cheese and stir in)
and then steam some veg (wash and cut up some cauliflower, carrot cabbage, frozen beans etc) – can buy packet ones in frozen section of the supermarket if easier (ready prepared, no peeling and cutting) and should have directions for you…

    Ok… then we have hotdogs
Buy frankfurts and cook as directed..
Get bread rolls and fill with frankfurts, tomato sauce, mustard and cheese and serve

    Chicken, veg and pasta soup..
Get chicken stock (preferrably 1 litre/1.5 litre) – can buy premade from the store
    Chicken fillets (raw)
Veg (suggest carrot, potato, celery, onion)
    Spiral pasta
Will need soy sauce and pepper

First off either wash and peel and then cut the vegetables into small pieces (or use the frozen variety if prefer to cut this part out)
Fill a large pot with the chicken stock..
Add the vegetables and spiral pasta and let them cook for around 20 minutes
Taste vegetables and pasta to see if they have softened.. if so add in the uncooked raw chicken and let it cook for about 20 minutes (take some out and see if it is done – break apart and make sure not pink inside), if looks ok then add in about three tablespoons of soy sauce, and pepper to taste.. ready to go, serve with bread..

    Spaghetti Bolognaise/Chilli Con Carne…
Cook up pasta as directed on the packet (boil water as described above, add pasta in and generally will take around 20/25 minutes to cook – stir every five minutes to make sure it doesn’t stick together or some parts are cooked while others aren’t). Once the pasta is on, start the bolognaise/chilli con carne..
Put mince in a pan on the stove on high heat (put spray oil on the pan first so does not stick too much) and stir and cook until the meat browns and is not pink anymore.. Add in half a jar of bolognaise sauce and half a tin of diced tomatoes and mix it in.. add in a bayleaf (can find them in any spice section but not necessary if do not have, can do without) and let it cook on medium heat for say five minutes.. if you want chilli con carne add in a can of kidney beans (liquid drained) and some chilli (can buy chilli that has been chopped and packaged in fresh spice section of supermarket – usually sold in mild and hot so whatever you prefer) to taste..

Drain pasta and serve with the bolognaise/con carne.
