You can also try shopping at an organic food store (Trader Joe’s, Whole Foods, etc.) or a farmers market.

Try to get a good variety of foods over the day. Meats, fruits, vegetables, grains, fish. Try for 5-7 servings of vegetables per day, 5 servings of fruit, 6-8 servings of grains (bread, pasta, rice, pilafs all count) as part of every meal. Protein 2-3 times per day, but you don’t need too much at any one time. Protein includes: meat, poultry, fish, eggs, dried beans and lentils, tofu. Don’t go too heavy on fats and oils. Vegetable oils are a better choice for cooking than lard, shortening or butter, unless there is a specific need for one of those (like butter flavor).

This website will give you some good information on general nutritional principles:

Here is the link to a site that I have got so addicted to. The recipes are all from cooks just like us, you can type in key words to find almost anything, and they are anywhere from easy to challenging. Read the reviews and have fun taking the recipe and making it your own. That is how I cook, give me a base recipe, and I will give you YUMMO!

If they don’t eat them, I would try to introduce more vegetables, especially green, leafy ones, and fruits, and fish when possible, if there’s any kind your family will eat, or have them try. Have fresh fruit and berries and good granola bars on hand, and have no junk food in the house. Fresh fish should not smell fishy. If you shop at all or whoever does, tell them that. It also has no chlorine smell. Then it’s a lot better tasting, because it’s real fresh, You don’t have to be shy, I always ask to smell my fish before I buy it!
Popcorn with no extra butter added is an excellent snack, because it’s fun AND good for you. (And this cuts down on junk food, especially if there’s none in the house. which is what works best.)
Also check out Network.com. They have quick and healthy meals, and just lots of recipes of all types, like healthy meals. Good luck, hon!
